Daniel Bell

Born in Montreal, Canada, is now Professor of Philosophy at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He obtained a B.A. from the Department of Psychology at McGill University, Canada in 1985, and then obtained an M.Phil. and a D.Phil. in Politics from Oxford University, UK. His publications include "Communitarianism and Its Critics" (1993); "East Meets West" (2000); and "Beyond Liberal Democracy: Political Thinking for an East Asian Context" (2006). He is the co-author (with David Brown, Kanishka Jayasuriya, and David Martin Jones) of "Towards Illiberal Democracy in Pacific Asia" (1995). He is the co-editor of "The East Asian Challenge for Human Rights" (1999) with Joanne Bauer "Forms of Justice: Critical Perspectives on David Miller's Political Philosophy" (2002) with Avner de-Shalit; "Confucianism for the Modern World" (2003) with Hahm Chaibong; and "The Politics of Affective Relations: East Asia and Beyond " (2004) with Hahm Chaihark.
